Connect via RDP

Your ElypseCloud Windows VPS is accessible via Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP), which allows you to connect remotely to the complete Windows graphical interface.

Other operating systems

This guide uses the native Windows RDP client. If you are on:

  • Linux: Remmina, Rdesktop, or FreeRDP
  • macOS: Microsoft Remote Desktop (available on the App Store)
  • Mobile: Microsoft Remote Desktop (iOS/Android)

The principle remains the same: enter the IP, username and password.

1. Start the RDP client​

On Windows, open the Start menu and type either:

  • Remote Desktop Connection
  • mstsc
  • Remote Desktop

Press Enter to launch the application.

2. Enter connection information​

In the Computer field, enter the IP address of your Windows VPS. You can find this address in your ElypseCloud client area, in the My services > Manage section on your VPS.

Click Show options to expand the advanced connection settings.

Change the username:

  • By default, the username is Administrator.
  • If you changed the username, enter the new name here.

3. (Optional) Save connection information​

Check the Remember my credentials box to avoid re-entering the password each time you connect.

4. Connect​

Click Connect. If a security warning appears regarding the certificate, click Yes to continue.

5. (Optional) Manage advanced settings​

In the Display tab, you can adjust the remote screen resolution and color quality according to your preferences.

6. Disconnect​

To disconnect properly, click the Start menu in the Windows RDP session, then select Sign out. Do not simply close the RDP window, as this could leave applications open on the server.

If you close the RDP window without signing out, your session remains active on the server, which can cause performance or security issues.

7. Troubleshooting common issues​

  • Cannot connect: Check that the VPS is online and the IP address is correct.
  • Certificate error: Accept the warning to continue the connection.
  • Performance issues: Adjust display settings for better performance (color quality, resolution, etc.).
  • Forgotten password: Go to the ElypseCloud manager to reset the password.
  • Locked account: Follow our guide to prevent RDP access lockout by bots / change username.
